Neutral. He is a good man and I know he cares about his people, but his insistence on declaring the 1904 Treaty null and his demands of territory are really annoying, at least for most of the people here.

HP, though he has shown no signs of being authoritarian, and seems to have good intentions. I think the whole assassination plot against him was a bit odd though.

Evo Morales is a FF.  Some of his policies may be overly idealistic, but he has a life-long record of fighting against injustice.  Nixon and Kissinger would have killed the pesky socialist a long time ago.

My opinion of virtually all other living politicians is even lower.

Are you referring to Bolivia's access to sea issue? Well, for obvious reasons it must be annoying for Chile. And for obvious reasons it's a big deal for Bolivia.

I would do the same if I was him (after all, we did stole that land), but he could downplay the issue and choose to discuss some of the issues our government has proposed instead of, well, what he has been doing so far.

Interesting but obviously outdated video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iX--zMCu3c

I'm interested in your opinion, as a Chilean, how the whole dispute should be resolved. After all, it really screwes up your relationship.

I don't really see a way to solve the dispute that will leave both sides happy. We are not going to give up sovereignty on any part of the country, and I doesn't look like Bolivia will settle on anything else. We already gave them economic concessions and we built a train from La Paz to Antofagasta (decades ago, though) so they could improve their trade.

Plans to give them land on the northern tip of the country were thwarted by Peru (apparently they don't want to share a bigger common border), so the only thing we could do would be to lower certain rates and give more guarantees to improve Bolivian trade. Some people here believe that "Latinamerican brotherhood" is more important than anything, but the other problem is that (sadly and without a clear reason) we are little bit racist with most of our neighboors.
