I'm not a fan of the Spartacists, who were the same threat to infant Weimar democracy as the hard right (I'm not saying slaugheting them was good, though), but he helped, willingly or not, the militarized nationalism to emerge.

On the other hand, Ebert was one of the few people (along with Gustav Stresemann, Hermann Müller or Otto Braun) who kept the new Republic inact.
