COVENANT MARRIAGE FACTS
· Available in three states: Arkansas, Arizona and Louisiana

· In those states, an estimated 1 to 2 percent of couples have opted for it

· At least two dozen states considered but declined to pass laws

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE FIRST LAW
· Under Louisiana's law, passed in 1997, couples opting into covenant marriage express their intention to remain married for life

· Couples agree to premarital counseling and must seek counseling before applying for divorce

· Grounds for divorce include adultery, felony conviction, abandonment, abuse and separation of at least two years

I think it's a silly idea. Just ban divorce.

I dont have a problem with it since it's voluntary, I suppose it might be the best for some couple's. Although I'm unsure about its impact.

I can't say whether it's a good idea or not - really varies from marriage to marriage I suppose. But, if it's voluntary I don't see much reason to disallow it - people can live with whatever consequences it might entail.

I support it and I don't think it needs to be a "law."  I'm sure you could arrange such a contract in every state.

I'm not sure the state needs to be involved. If a couple wants to stay married, they'll stay married.

It's just an alternative contract that can be offered and signed.
