Most Republicans don't really want it.

Obama could ignore the ceiling or mint a coin.

And if, by some chance, the above two don't happen... one of the things the U.S. government will always pay is the interest on its national debt.

Probably not, but I'm not totally on board with the two above posts. They could save their fire for a government shutdown, which I still think would be a losing proposition for them.

If we crash into the debt ceiling, the US won't default. We'll see social security checks not being mailed and federal parks and office buildings closed for a few days until some sort of deal is reached.
