Obviously the September 14 date set by Gillard is no longer set in stone, the question is when will the election be held? Time is ticking for a pre-September 14 election, as the election has to be held a minimum of 33 days after the writs are issued. The latest date is the 30th of November.

I would have said an earlier election, but if Rudd goes to the Governor-General now to ask for a dissolution, which he won't, the election could be held no earlier than the 10th of August. When Gillard was still PM, she was going to go to the Governor-General on the 12th of August, but who knows if Rudd will do the same.

My thoughts? If he doesn't go for September 14th, he'll go for a later election, although not in November.

Aren't the latest reports hinting at an October date? I'll vote for later.

I think he's left with 3 periods...

late August - but the LG referendum would have to get scrapped...

keep 14 September.... still a reasonable option...

or late October to avoid football finals and school holidays...

My gut is that he won't make Gillard's mistake and go too soon, the Coalition want the election now, because they don't want to risk Rudd establishing himself. I think it's either 14 September or 26 October.

26 October looks about right to me.
