I did a poll like this in June, but with Romney's veep pick, time to do it again.

If Obama wins this year, then who are the three most likely 2016 nominees for each party (that is, pick three Dems and three Republicans)?

For Democrats (assuming Hillary Clinton does a Sherman):

Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York
Gov. Martin O'Malley of Maryland
Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana

For Republicans:

Gov. Susana Martinez of New Mexico
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida
Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin

Democrats:

Andrew Cuomo
Brian Schweitzer
Hillary Clinton

Though if Hillary doesn't run, I'd move O'Malley up.

Republicans:

Paul Ryan
Chris Christie
Marco Rubio

Democrats: Clinton, Biden, and Cuomo.

If any of these three pass (and it's easy to imagine Clinton or Biden deciding not to run), O'Malley seems like the remaining candidate most prepared to run a serious campaign. Schweitzer is my favorite, but I expect that his campaign would be underfunded and enjoy little support from Democratic interest groups.

Republicans: Ryan, Christie, Rubio. I pick Ryan by default, although I have doubts about whether he'd run in this scenario. Christie won't have anything else to do, and I expect Rubio's popularity to endure among conservatives. The remaining candidates are either boring, unlikely to run, or unqualified. Jindal, for instance, has the persona to be the next Tim Pawlenty.
