As far as the voters go, horrible party. Most of them are hypocritical so-cons, as their votes for Gingrich show. A lot of them are probably populists as well, I doubt many in the Tea Party care about or understand fiscal conservatism.

South Carolina conservatives are not populists.  They have always been happy to attribute their longstanding objection to federal intervention to economic concerns.
