Freedom Cities. Proud to live in in one. In Minneapolis it is illegal for police to inquire about someone's immigration status or if they are in the US legally.

If they won't enforce immigration laws, why should they mind if I violate their draconian gun laws?

Hey if you're ever in Minneapolis I wouldn't care if you did.

(Though Minneapolis' gun laws aren't really any more draconian than Minnesota's overall, unless you count basically every single business banning guns on the property, but that's all a business decision, not the law.)

I wasn't so much referring to Minneapolis(or Houston or Austin for that matter, obv), as New York, Chicago, and D.C.

Like I said in other threads, I think the immigration laws should be liberalized and I welcome immigrants, especially Hispanic ones, here with open arms. I just think that if we get in the business of ignoring certain laws, the government loses the authority to enforce other laws. Unfortunately it's a federal issue that's for the most part left up to states and localities to enforce. I honestly wouldn't mind it if every state had their own immigration policies, with a nationalized standard for citizenship...

So do you disagree with how many cities (Minneapolis, Seattle, Denver, Ann Arbor, basically the entire Bay Area) basically just ignore marijuana laws?

No I don't disagree with it, but I don't think that that's an issue that should be left up to the federal government to decide; it's an issue where city governments are telling the federal government that it has overstepped its bounds and that they don't have to enforce those laws. However, in those locales the federal government is still free to enforce federal drug laws. Immigration is a completely different story because it deals with national sovereignty and citizenship, and is one of the principle functions of a central government. But like I said above, I wouldn't see any problems with the federal government leaving immigration policy up to the states, and I think that might be the best thing. It lets the states decide how many or few people they'll let in to meet their specific needs. There would still need to be national standards for gaining citizenship though, to avoid problems.
