Massive, massive freedom fighter. A Republican from South Carolina trying to do what he thinks is best for the country in this environment, at the expense of his own career... man...

They allow a different Republican to be the point man/woman for each piece of legislation.  Collins the stimulus, Snowe for healthcare (she supported a more liberal bill in committee), Graham for the environment and Corker for financial reform.

he's certainly independent minded, and has stood up against the torture supporters and the xenophobes in his party. i think he's very wrongheaded on some issues, but FF generally.

There are too many Democrats who come from coal producing and using states for there to be any serious chance of any EPA CO2 regulations using current law coming into force.

Perhaps. But taking away the ability to do so would embolden even more the polluters.

Originally, I thought he was better than other Southern Republican Senators because he was more moderate (one of the Gang of 14) and a big friend of McCain's, back when McCain was a GOP moderate himself. But in the past couple years he has become an average GOP Senator.

There have been rumors over the years that he's gay. This month he was outed at a Teabagger rally by a conservative activist. Why is the media still ignoring this issue? Why do they always wait until something bad happens to the person like with Larry Craig and Mark Foley?

I've always found it odd that even though he comes across as really, really gay, his, uh, sexuality is never brought up or even an issue during election time. Despite his being in SC. And a Republican.

I'd have more respect for him if he admitted he was gay.

The gay community wouldn't want him. It'd be best if he stayed in the closet and pretended to keep living in his heteronormative fantasy land, at least he's safer there.

Because until something bad does happen, it's none of their business.
