Compared to half of the Bible the things Joseph Smith claimed weren't that outrageous at all. L Ron Hubbard was just on another level if he actually believed Scientology to be the truth....

And it came to pass that Lord Xenu makes less ing sense than Jesus coming to North America.
And it came to pass that I voted for Hubbard in this poll.
And it came to pass that it came to pass.

I actually liked Battlefield Earth. Not because it was any good, but because it wasn't.

Admittedly me too - it was so cheesy and bad that you just had to like it. That obviously wasn't the intent of course.

It's over a thousand pages long, which has always scared me off.  I couldn't even make it through the Koran (and I really tried!), I doubt I could make it through a far worse prophet's text.

The movie isn't nearly that long - I suggest you watch it at least once if you get a chance to do it for free, though don't pay for it.

Scientology got savaged in the Australian Senate during Adjournment Debate last night:

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/scientology-criminal-says-senator-nick-xenophon/story-e6frg6nf-1225799077820

Here is the Hansard: http://www.aph.gov.au/hansard/senate/dailys/ds171109.pdf - the speech is on page 73, which is page 87 of the PDF.

And here is the footage of the speech made by Independent South Australian Senator, Nick Xenophon, on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-EvygFPNIE&videos=zVhW-WAU2m8

For a fascinating series of posts about Scientology, check this out:

http://www.holysmoke.org/rvy/rvy.htm

This fellow was part of Hubbard's inner circle before leaving a few years after Hubbard's death.

This essay in particular: http://www.holysmoke.org/rvy/rvy2.htm is well worth reading.  Our man, Robert Vaughn Young, discusses how he ghostwrote the prefaces to each of the ten volumes of Hubbard's last series, Mission Earth, and how horrible it is to be the editor and ghostwriter of a self-proclaimed prophet and madman.
