Negative although I have a less negative opinion of single payer than the half-baked compulsory insurance schemes people are proposing.

Ummm... so by turning their back on everything their party stands for, they're somehow 'True Republicans'?

What are you accusing the Republican party of standing for?

I'm not 'accusing' them of anything. I'm supporting their stance on healthcare, which they clearly have decided they do not like.

You have to remember that the majority of Republicans were not fiscal conservatives until at least the 1960's. Even Nixon was fairly fiscally liberal.

Very positive. I honestly don't think this should even be a political issue. If we're going to have public education, why not healthcare? There's no consistency in that. If Republicans were to actually oppose public education as well I'd have more respect for them. The only difference is that there aren't any gigantic private school organizations buying their votes...

And exactly what is it that which the party stands for which he supposedly has turned his back on?  Please try and be more specific than simply "opposing anything Democrats support" or blindly and blandly screaming 'socialism'?

I understand that the party has changed a lot in the last decade, and abandoned most of it's traditional principles (which is why I finally left in 2000), but what principle does it claim to support is he violating?

Negative.

A truely traditional conservative response would be "leave it up to the states to decide for themselves", not a "one size fits all" government style program.

I think there are business-oriented reasons to back universal healthcare, such as a more healthy workforce or more international competitiveness [compared to the employer-based system]

And someone could be truly capitalist but view healthcare services to be a right similar to police protection and fire engines.

This is true, but what I gathered from the webpage was that these people are arguing that it is conservative.
I guess if you're in Europe or Canada but the US?
