I'm very much in favor of it, in fact, I think its going to be a decided question in 50 years.

I'm not in favor of agitating for individual provinces to join the United States, though, as that would be a violation of another states sovereignty.

I support it if it was the US joining Canada: the capital is Ottawa, the head of state will be some grandma/grandpa in England, and the flag will have a big maple leaf on it.

The 50 states will be territories without representation in Parliament. Their territory legislatures will be half elected, half appointed by Canadian-appointed governors. After 10 years of Canadianization (e.g. requiring metric system, introducing universal health care, and freeing 75% of prisoners), Canada will start converting territories into provinces (with MPs in Ottawa, elected local governments, etc), starting with New England. Oklahoma or Alabama will be the last territories to convert, sometime in the year 2130. But if Oklahoma and Texas are too unruly to be converted, they will be handed over to Mexico.

For those new Canadians who do not wish to live under godless hippie rule, Hong Kong-style autonomous territories will be created on the Channel Islands off the California coast, Nootka Sound on Vancouver Island, and Iles de la Madeleine near Quebec. Then, milk and honey will flow from every river and unicorns will leap over rainbows every morning.

I was bored one day and added Canada to the United States and calculated how many representatives each state would now get. It was a very illuminating exercise.

What's my point? Why the hell not, more economic prosperity, more geopolitical influence, plus it would shift the US in a leftward direction. Let's do it!

Mexico ought to be included, and they would be willing to join, unlike those ungrateful son of a bitches up north.

I kinda like the idea of Canada joining the US. I wouldn't need a passport to go hunting in Canada!

I'd like to see Canada and Mexico join the United States, with the provinces and Mexican states being their own states. I'd sell Quebec to the Taliban.

But where would all the 19 and 20 year olds go to drink!

Um...I really don't care - if Canadians are for it, sure.  I think the name is stupid since they don't include Mexico (even though the explained why they don't include it - the name is kinda dumb without it).  I don't ever see it happening, but whatever.

There are few good reasons for Canada to join the US and lots of bad reasons as the US would still hold most of the keys.  They are much better off close to us, but independent of us.

...and the only we should add Mexico is if there is another war between us....and even then it would be a very expensive proposition, although certainly better for both countries in the long run.

I am in favor of including Canada as a part of America, but only if they bring their Universal health care with them. Smiley

With the Canadian economy, and the lives of their people being so dependent upon U.S. actions these days, why wouldn't they want a voice?  All they can do now is protest us.  If they join us, then they will have a vote, and we'll all be stronger, "American" and "Canadian" because of it.

I'd like to see Canada and the U.S. join together... Certainly, it couldn't actually do any harm.

As things stand right now, unification would probably be good for the United States and bad for (the former) Canada. I would be more supportive of the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Island protectorates entering into an EU-type Union.

Nope. Currently, some laws (and other things) the govt does favor one region of the country over another.  The same would hold true with Canada, thus each Canadian would have a lot less control than they currently do.  Also, why would they want to inherit our huge debt and our (arguably) lesser medical industry?  Canadians are fairly well liked around the world, why would they want to join the "bad place" (even if the idea that the average American is somehow worse than the average Brit or Aussie or Frenchy is idiotic)?

What would they gain?  Security?  Nah, they've already got that from us.  We work very closesly together militarily.

They would gain the ability to actually make decisions in the government that really has the most effect on their lives.
