Relax guys, the Nobel "Peace" Prize has been a joke since Woodrow Wilson won it in 1919.

Whatever anyone thinks about Obama deserving the prize, there is some serious Obama Derangement Syndrome out there.

These guys are doing more to ensure Obama's reelection than Hary Reid and Nancy Pelosi will ever do.

Alright, what is wrong with Mohammed el-Baradei and why is he likened to Yassir Arafat? Is it because his name is "Mohammed"? And who the f**k is Mona Charen?

As others have said, this was given way too early. He might be worthy of it one day, but not yet.

My jaw literarelly dropped when I heard this on the news earlier today. I like Obama, as most people here know, but he hasn't done nearly enough to deserve it. Not yet. And he's the Head of State for a country currently involved in two wars.

Honestly I have no idea what the hell the comittee was thinking. As Rowan said, when he was nominated he had been president for a week at the most.

The prize money, which is not a small amount of gold, can also (and will most likely) be used to finance his re-election, which bugs me too. That money should not be used for political purpous. They should have waited until the end of his carer.

I almost guarantee you that the money will be largely or entirely given to charity, and definitely not a dime for political campaigning.

I agree this was premature. That said:

>Regardless, this isn't a bad thing. If it helps Obama's stature even a bit in negotiating agreements and pursuing his foreign policy goals, then great.

>I don't know why conservatives are so upset. As they repeatedly pointed out earlier this week his multilateralism and reaching out to the world clearly hadn't earned him or America any respect abroad, otherwise how come he couldn't snare the Olympics? Everyone knows THAT'S the real test of international prestige over the crappy Nobel.

>Speaking of which, I can't wait to hear Fox and co later.

I agree with the majority that it was premature.

But for all those who say that his choice was an embarrasment, I have two words: Henry Kissinger.

Best comment I've heard today:

If NASA strapped Obama to the rocket that hit the moon this morning, he would have won the Nobel Prize for Science too.

Yeah, Hannity's got some real kneeslappers in his repertoire.

Obviously the man who traveled into the future to get Obama's trophy is a leading contender for the Nobel prize in science. Tongue

Actually, it came from the hockey message board first thing this morning, not Hannity.  But thanks for proving your an idiot.  Must suck to not have a funny bone too.

Yeah, and the guy who posted it probably got it off Red State. His one saving grace is being a hockey fan.

If that's the epitome of humor, try some Dmitri Martin or Jim Norton or Dane Cook. But thanks for proving you're a douchebag.

Weird and unexpected, and, well, a little wrong. Well, better than the Conservative choice for this year. Which, may I remind you, is Silvio Berlusconi.

This makes a joke out of the Nobel Peace Prize, and hence I strongly approve of it.

Congrats to Obama.  It is a rare honor, and we should be proud that someone from the US recieved it.

However, it is premature.  He was nominated prior to his entering office.  Much of the accolated the selection committee sited occurred after he was nominated, which is a slap in the face to those who were also nominated but also actually "did" something to deserve the nomination.

It is my hope that when he accepts the award, he cites many of the other nominees and gives them the credit that they deserve.  I would be even more impressed if he offers to share the award with one of them, especially those organizations that could use the money.

Best post on this subject in any thread about it.   Couldn't agree more.

The GOP's reaction has just shown how desperate and pathetic they have become.  Like a bunch of pissed off "I'm taking my ball home" children.

"It makes a mockery of the Nobel Peace Price"... and the Republican party makes a mockery of democracy.  Steele is a frickin idiot.

I know everyone is saying he didn't deserve it, but I always try to see the silver lining in the cloud, so I will say this: perhaps this award will serve as a motivational/inspirational tool for Pres. Obama to hurry up and end the wars.  A sort of carrot-before-the-horse psychology.

Didn't work for Arafat.
