I've driven through both areas quite a few times. The Western part of Maryland felt basically Southern. The eastern part had a lot of farm areas... saw quite a few farms where the roofs had "TRUMP" or "MAGA" or "TRUMP 2020" painted on it. Seemed less culturally Southern to me but also felt pretty rural and conservative.
Of course these places aren't very populated so they take in more suburban parts of the state. But there are clearly solid conservative areas that are completely disjointed from the rest of Maryland/DC/Baltimore culture.
