1. The poverty rate is farce because it does not take into consideration the many forms of non-cash (and some cash) handouts that the gov't provides. Food stamps, housing subsidies, tax credits, etc all magically vanish when official poverty numbers are crunched. Is it any wonder these programs don't "work?"

Plus it makes no attempt to adjust for cost of living differences.
