Chris Christie Announces 2016 Presidential Campaign, Vows to Represent Mainstream America

Trenton, New Jersey
"Today, America faces greater challenges than ever before.  We need leaders in Washington who will stand up to those challenges.  Unfortunately, the last eight years have seen a president and Congress who would rather slink away from the very real dangers facing our nation and our world.  Too many of our leaders care more about winning reelection and keeping their campaign donors happy than they do about making difficult decisions and moving America forward.

Meanwhile, the forgotten majority of American see their voices being drowned out by extremists in both major parties.  Democrats are moving further and further to the left, advocating for abortion on demand, redistribution of wealth, and big government healthcare.  But it's not just the far left that we should stand up to; it's the extreme voices within our own party as well.  Since 2010, Republicans have given President Obama and his liberal rubberstamps in Congress free reign over our government and our lives by nominating extreme, unelectable candidates in the name of ideological purity.  And if you dare to call them out for this, they accuse you of being a RINO.  Then, the ones that do get elected refuse to work with their colleagues, causing gridlock, dysfunction, and yes, even government shutdowns.  They want to destroy our government altogether: dismantle the safety net, dismantle the tracking of suspected terrorists, legalize marijuana, and treat blacks and Mexicans as second-class citizens.  I am ashamed to even call these people Republicans.  As these extreme voices continue to dominate our government, America's middle class is being decimated.  Taxes go up, unemployment goes up, the cost of living goes up, but opportunity goes down.

My friends, these extreme ideas on both the left and the right are not what our Founding Fathers envisioned for America.  But there is good news: it is not too late to turn this country around!  This next election in 2016 is the most important choice America will face since 1968.  Back then, violence and racial tension ruled the streets of our major cities.  Extreme left-wingers worked to destroy the moral fabric of America, while extreme right-wingers worked to deny blacks full citizenship and leave our poorest and most vulnerable to be victims of cruel fate.  It took courageous leaders like President Nixon to speak for the silent majority and bring America back to its senses.  Today, as it was then, America's leaders have failed.  We need a government that is willing to stand up to the terrorist states of the Middle East; one that will do everything it can to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, destroy radical Islamic terror, and defend Israel against all her enemies.  One that will free our poor, our middle class, and our minority communities from the failures of the liberal welfare state while protecting them from losing the rights they already have.  One that recognizes that all lives matter: black, white, Hispanic, gay, straight, native, immigrant, police, and unborn alike; one that will put terrorists and cop killers behind bars where they belong.  One that will cut taxes for all Americans while working to grow our economy and create jobs again.

As a conservative governor in one of the most liberal states, I've proven that I can work with both parties and take on the most difficult challenges of government.  I believe that I can help make America great again.  And that is why, today, I announce my candidacy for President of the United States of America."

"I understand that John Wayne was born here in Winterset, and I'm here today because America needs leaders with the same kind of courage that John Wayne had.  Leaders who face crisis head-on instead of shying away from it.  Leaders who are more concerned about results than reelection.  My record as a conservative governor in a liberal state has shown that I can get those results.  George Soros doesn't own me, Warren Buffett doesn't own me, Rupert Murdoch doesn't own me, the Koch brothers don't own me, the unions don't own me, the special interests don't own me.  I'm tired of this country being run by extremists who are squeezing the middle class and ignore their needs.  When I'm president, I won't work for them.  I will work for you, the American people."

UPDATE TIME!

Hi, everyone! Cheesy Thanks for getting your Round 3 stuff in!

Recently, I've been getting some feedback from experienced ITLers (this is my first one) so I've decided to perhaps change a few rules in order to make the ITL experience better for everyone!

1. You may now use phone calls for endorsements; you no longer have to be in the person's state.

2. I know that the poll numbers between Rounds 1 and 2 changed pretty radically; that's my fault (it's really hard making polls!) and I'll try to make them more consistent/less extreme in the future when it comes to changes.

3. How would you guys think about making it two weeks per round instead of one? I personally like our current format but I've heard that some people think it will take too long. For now, we'll keep it one week per round (my preferred way) but if you guys come to a consensus then I'll think about changing it.

Please PM me with all your feedback/questions! Cheesy

Thanks!
When does the next round start?

"Rand Paul is telling people that he's an isolationist and wants to keep America out of foreign affairs.  Either he hasn't been listening to the news lately, or he isn't doing his job as a Senator, because Congress is about to make a bad deal with Iran that lets them get nuclear weapons.  This is a terrorist state that has vowed to destroy both America and Israel, and Rand Paul wants us to ignore them.  You can't be an isolationist when the security of the whole world is at stake.  Iran needs to know, and the whole world needs to know, that America will not tolerate nuclear weapons in the hands of rogue terrorist regimes, and when I'm president, we will send that message loud and clear."

"Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren are part of the same failed policies that Barack Obama has pushed for the last eight years.  They believe in the same big-government socialist welfare state that he does, and if either one of them is elected, they will ensure that his policies become irreversible.  Starting on day one, we need a president who will undo President Obama's extreme agenda by repealing and replacing Obamacare, cutting taxes, cutting spending, and strengthening our national defense against terrorism.  But we can't have that if our party nominates an unelectable candidate.  To govern, we have to win.  I can take on Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren, and I can defeat them."

Chris Christie Withdraws

"Over the last few months, we've come a long way with our campaign.  I've met with many great Americans who are devoted to our country and to making it strong again.  However, the current situation does not appear favorable for me to win the Republican nomination, and with that, I announce that I am withdrawing from the race for president.  However, I am not planning to retire from politics or endorse any candidate at this time.  Our party has an excellent field and a great chance to win the White House  I'm convinced that whoever the Republican party nominates will be our next president, and I will devote my time and resources to ensure victory in November 2016."
