There's no such thing as a "Reagan Democrat" anymore.  Nearly all of them returned to the Democratic Party when  Bill Clinton was elected in 1992 and have stayed with the Dems ever since.  And Macomb county isn't always a bellwether in presidential elections: if I remember correctly, it voted narrowly for Al Gore in 2000.  (BTW: it also voted for Dick Posthumus for Governor in 2002, so it's not always a bellwether in state elections either.)  But it is still a qunitessential swing county, quite a reversal of roles since its time as a union Democrat stronghold in the 50s and 60s and a socially conservative, Republican-leaning county in the 80s.

If the electing were held today, Obama probably would carry Macomb County, but whether he will in November is another story.
