My impression of Carter as president though, was he was dour, rarely smiled and had a too serious of a personality. Maybe the malaise of his presidency wore him down?

In 1976 he had that toothy grin with his southern good ole boy charms. Ford seemed pretty country club, a lot like GHW Bush.
