Swahili is the lingua franca of East Africa. Its got a simplified grammar (ie only two irregular verbs)

The whole language only has two verbs?
Two irregular verbs. Like take/took in English. Swahili's this way because of some considerable Arabic influence, which has simplified the language somewhat.

A verb that doesn't act like a typical verb in a language. In English, for example, the typical way to form the past tense is with the suffix -ed.
Example:
Mark Sanford cheats on his wife. (Present)*
Mark Sanford cheated on his wife. (Past)

However, there are some English verbs that don't work that way. The verbs that don't follow typical patterns are irregular.
Example:
Mark Sanford is the representative from South Carolina's 1st district. (Present)
Mark Sanford was the representative from South Carolina's 1st district. (Past)
