Glad to see the Whig Party is still alive after Simfan left. As Liberal Whip, I would like to work conclusively with the Whig Leadership on defeating our "common enemy".

I didn't realize your enemy was Napoleon, but I'm glad to hear it. Wink

I'd be up for it. Though I don't know if they'd be. Tongue

Well I guess we're ready to vote for chairman & vice-charian, since nobody else seems interested in running. Voting will last 24 hours.

Chairman:
[1] Goldwater

Vice-chairman:
[1] Oldiesfreak

On an un-related note, we really ought to change our by-laws. The actions we've taken over the last month or so have been exactly the right course of action given the circumstance, but these actions aren't exactly... allowed. I'm not challenging them, but it would be nice to have party rules that would allow for us to easily solve problems when they arise.

Yep, you can find them here. There's also an amendment that hasn't yet made it onto this page... It's the one Simfan cited in the last few pages of our convention at Bird-in-Hand.

Moreover, if we were to theoretically "inject ourselves" into the People's Party, we'd play a role in shaping what it stood for.

I'm not going to try and shape any of these decisions though. I'm staying far away from party leadership. I ain't the "smiling face" our party needs. Tongue

I will probably be running for re-election. I haven't done the best job in the world, but I feel like I've been a very active contributor. And we're hurting for those.

I've fought for what this party believes in, but, at the same time, I've tried to reach common ground with my colleagues in the senate. Hopefully y'all will choose to keep me on. I really like the job. Smiley

Just putting it out there. Tongue

I must have missed Townsend's resignation though. It's kind of a shame he couldn't have been more active. I really appreciated the fact that he wasn't a strict partisan.

Odds are I'll give my support to some of the People's Party folks, but I'm torn on the Whigs actually endorsing them right now. Simfan and Spamage were Whigs. I'd like them back. Throwing our official support behind them basically sends the message that it's okay to leave the party.

Obviously we should still put it to a vote. Just saying I'm really 50/50 on how I'll personally vote. And if I do vote no, it's nothing personal at all.

I've been thinking...

I know nothing’s official yet, but while we’re in the midst of this transition, I really think we should do everything we can to welcome the IB into the fold. Officially, this is a merger... but let’s face it—there are a lot more Whigs than Bloc-folk. We need to reach out and prove our willingness to work together.

Let me start by saying I have really appreciated the role our leadership has played since the Supersonic crisis (Goldwater, you’ve been fantastic). That being said, I think we should hold an election for a new interim Chair during this transition phase—it would symbolize our interest in being fair and impartial during the changeover. This Chair would represent the new party (both the IB and the Whigs would initially vote) and preside over the naming of the party, by-law ratification, and the elections for the new executive. That way, we’ve got no illusions of old partisanship coming into the new party. By all means, I’d encourage Goldwater to run in this election, but the election itself would be an important gesture.

And, if I could make a suggestion, I’d actually recommend clarence for this role. I have no idea if he’s interested, but I think he’d be a perfect fit here—he’s a Southerner, he’s got close ties to both parties, and he hasn’t been an active Whig for quite a while. He’s as impartial as you can get. He’s a huge name in Atlasian politics and could really show the country that we’re serious about being a major party.

I move that we hold a vote to an elect an interim Chair during this transition period.

Why does it matter that he's a Southerner?  I like clarence, I would want somebody who's not a Southerner so people don't think we're racist.

No one has accused the Imperial Bloc of being racist. I just think it would be a good gesture to the Bloc if we elected a Southerner, considering 1) They're losing more in this deal than we are, and 2) They were the party of the South. If you disagree, feel free to vote another way. I didn't really mean to dictate anything. Sorry if it came across that way.
