Neither. And Frodo brings up a great point.  Basically new teachers and those coming out of college now are screwed.  My friends tell me that the young ones are getting bad reviews just because they will not keep them on. With the budget admins arent giving out tenure and older incompetents can skate on by or massively rules and or the law while collecting their generous checks rubber room. A basic problem with most unions is that it gives shelter to the lazy minority among its members.

They oppose vouchers because it is competition.

Quite the contrary. I don't see why a teacher ought to be paid more then a grand per head.

30k is more then enough for teaching a class of 30 students every day all day.

And I am a teacher.

You cant afford to live on that here. You are also not going to attract people with the required skills and education level with that money.
