He surely would. Crimea means a lot for majority of Russians (almost no one approved Khrushchev's "transfer" of it to Ukraine) - one. And Putin doesn't seriously fears US military - two. He knows, that US fears nuclear war at least as much (probably - even more, it's people have more to lose) as Russia.

There is nothing McCain could do to stop Putin from taking Crimea




+100. Nuclear weapons are NOT a deterrent when other side knows for sure, that you will not use it. And this is exactly that case.

even if neither US or Russia had nukes no President would take the US to war over Crimea.


Now, on the other hand, we likely would have had WW3 already(which would start in 1962) if there wasnt a possibility of MAD.
