There were serious illegalities in this race. Had the Dems stayed out of the GOP primary after voting in their own, he would've won and Thad would be retiring at the end of the year.

These are not illegalities. This is an essence of "open primary"... If it's open - anyone can vote anyway in any primary (in run-off - if he/she didn't voted in first primary for some party).. So - it's absolutely normal.
