Safe D, of course. CA-31 situation is unlikely to be repeated here even if 8-9 Democrats will run with exactly 2 Republicans. And this district is, usually, considered among "more conservative" in Bay area....

Mark DeSaulnier is a former moderate Republican. In fact, when i studied Northern California (including Bay Area) recent political history - i was surprised how many moderate Republicans it elected in 60-70th, and even in 80-90th. Not so right now - political realignment worked quite well here as well: no Republicans in US House from Bay Area since Tom Campbell (2000), no one in state Assembly (don't even speak about state Senate) since 2008, and so on. All, what remained - some city and county positions. A South in reverse...
