If you want a cynical explanation for the intervention in Libya, there may be better things to look at. Such as its geographical closeness to certain EU member states. There's also been speculation about Sarkozy being motivated by a different set of domestic political calculations. And so on.

Not that whataboutery should ever be used as a substitute for an argument.
