I am wondering why he is doing this so soon after the Taliban takeover.

Can he say anything that will do damage control?

It is not a pretty picture, but I agree with what he did 100% for obvious reasons.

My question is will the US learn from this disaster and realize the folly of starting wars that can't be won?

The US should have learned from Vietnam but it didn't. Congress rushed into Afghanistan without thinking it through.

The GOP is the party of war. Perhaps the Democratic Party some day will move to the "left" with respect to not being the world's policemen. As of now there are too many Democrats who are hawks.
