God bless America Land that I love Stand beside her And guide her Through the night with the light from above From the mountains To the prairies To the oceans White with foam God bless America My home sweet home From the mountains To the prairies To the oceans White with foam God bless America My home sweet home God bless America My home sweet home
vs.
O say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there; O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
"God Bless America" by far. Also how many people know what a "rampart" is? The Star Spangled Banner is about America resisting military bombardment.
Herbert Hoover signed it the SSB into law as the anthem in 1931.
I'm really surprised "God Bless America" is not the anthem, especially because it references God. Our motto is "In God We Trust" and God is referenced in so many other American landmarks and speeches.
They should have chosen the song that was the easiest to sing. How many times has the anthem been butchered by "an up-and-coming singer"?
