I don’t see what’s wrong with her answer either. I mean, listening to the argument is not necessarily an indication that the argument is good or correct. She seems a lot more focused on the fact that the President has an affinity for CONFEDERATE monuments all in the midst of a pandemic that is presently killing Americans. I think she could’ve phrased it better, but this is far from the most offensive possible answer.

I think the key is to keep pushing back against Republican attempts to conflate Confederate leaders with the Founders. The right is trying to hide its own racism and anti-Americanism behind the contradictions of people like Washington and Jefferson.

I'm wondering if the delay is purely tactical.

The moment he announces a running mate, that will take the focus off Trump's ongoing trainwreck, and after a very brief honeymoon the media will transition to coverage of all Trump and his Republicans' attacks on Biden's VP. Why give them any more time for that? He doesn't need a bounce or more airtime, he (and his VP) just need to remain a credible alternative to a president who is the political equivalent of polonium.

Announce right before the convention, ride the buzz to get free publicity for what will likely be a well-run if unorthodox convention (for even more publicity), and then Trump's GOP scum only get four days of attacks before they get their own ill-planned convention.

It's really annoying (yet completely unsurprising) to see the pundits act as if Biden waiting is some "Dems in Disarray" narrative, when in fact the entire time it was always likely to be announced in the run-up to the convention

They have nothing else to talk about.

I mean, they could talk about Mr. Trump's continuing violations of his oath of office, conflicts of interest, constant transparent lies, idiocy and total incompetence. Or the total moral bankruptcy of the Republican party supporting it. But that wouldn't give them a horse-race to comment on for another three months.

That "What would you like our next VP to talk about at her grassroots fundraiser with Joe?" email tonight is pretty telling.

"...fundraisers we've already held with Biden, Obama, Buttigieg, and Warren have been real highlights in past months".

The email later reads,

"And no matter who the running mate is, we know she'll be just as excited to meet you."

1 - Grammatically speaking, that eliminates Warren.

2 - It's, presumably, someone the Biden team hasn't streamed with yet...

Rice might actually win this lmao

Eh, I know I've put my own share of (admittedly false) hope into vaguely-written emails before (e.g., that one from 'Joe' about his & Warren's "plan to win in November"), but if the most recent reports are truly any indication, then Biden either hasn't made a decision yet or - if he has - has only shared it with his closest confidants (Jill, his sister Valerie, Ted Kaufman, Jen O'Malley Dillon, & maybe somebody else I'm forgetting?), & certainly not the finance team staffer paid to write these emails, because if mid-to-low level staff like them were already aware of the pick, then it would've already been leaked to the networks.

Something tells me this email is just that: an email - like the other 10 they churn out on a daily basis - meant to sound exciting so it can get them as much money as they can get from their email list.

Oh trust me I'm terrified he's gonna pick Rice too lol

Me too, but out of partly selfish motives - I've got $50 in Rice No shares on PredictiIt.

I think she'd make a fine Secretary of State, and could probably do the job of Vice-President equally well. But her campaigning and domestic politics experience are weak, which sort-of terrifies me from the perspective of winning the election.

I was honestly thinking this unironically. Or at lease planning some big joint event/discussing appointments with people.

Gretchen Whitmer would proba bly be the best of the short list, unless minority needs to be a box on a checklist. She'd drive the GOP almost as nuts as Harris, but present them with a much smaller "attack surface".  If I were Biden and wanting to play it safe, I'd announce simultaneously, Whitmer for VP, Harris for AG, and Rice [as] Secretary of State.

Also I love how pretty much everybody on that list that's online right now is looking at this thread

This is getting close to Election Night pre-game levels

There should be a live thread for election night. I wasn't here in 2016 but was there one for that election?

The site usually crashes intermittently.

Maybe splitting the forum off will make a difference.

All Atlas users know is post fake Twitter news, eat hot chip and lie.

How else do you expect us to get to 350 pages before the announcement?
