Like Scott Brown's endorsement, it's pretty transparently self-serving.  He's clearly aiming for a spot in the cabinet or VP.

And perfectly in character for Christie. The establishment was done with him, while Trump probably won't even care if he gets indicted.

This is great for Cruz. It's bad for Rubio, but Trump getting endorsed by the Obama-hugging, corrupt NJ governor only supports Cruz's narrative. And while the impact won't be huge, it won't do Trump any favors in the South either.

Chris Christie is doing the one thing he's good at: screwing with the traffic, this time he's messing with the Establishment Lane. (If Trump doesn't win, I suspect he's done in the GOP. Of course, he was probably done anyway.)

L.L. beat me to it!

This seems hastily arranged. My bet is they were holding this endorsement until after Tuesday but felt the need to pull the pin after last night's debate.   Just speculation but campaigns often sit on endorsements waiting to time them for max impact

Why would you wait for arguably the biggest endorsement you could hope for until after the biggest primary day?

Because Christie's endorsement does Trump little good (and maybe some harm) in TX, OK, AR and other Southern states, while reinforcing Cruz's narrative about Trump: that he's neither conservative nor even really Republican.
