1 in 3 end in divorce and the average one lasts seven years before ending. As contracts go, it's one of the least stable. People get to marry and divorce two, three, four times over. People marry for money, or for a passport, or get married because they get drunk the night before or because it's the only relationship in which they think they can have sex. Some people have their spouse picked for them, some pick them off the internet and ship them home for a fee and some are forced to marry someone they don't want to. Some people marry so they can advance their career or get married for the nth time so they can get their wedding pictures in a magazine yet again. Straights have basically treated marriage like sh-t. Yet individual marriages on the whole can work and it's a wonderful thing. That's why it should be open to gays; to recognise that our relationships can work too, but if we piss it all away, then at the end of the day we're just the same as you. Smiley
