This is good news. Williams was a serious candidate and would be qualified in most jurisdictions, but his "generic Democratic"/polished style would have automatically doomed him in a district like this.

Worth noting that Ojeda won his State Senate district by the same amount as Justice did last year (58%), and his Senate district is a pretty good microcosm of WV-3 as a whole. Here are the gubernatorial numbers for WV-3:

Didn't Charlotte Pritt once beat Joe Manchin for the Democratic governor nomination, only to lose in the general because Manchin endorsed the Republican?

1996, yeah. Honestly, her prior name rec and nomination was likely the only reason she almost cleared 6% statewide. Mountain-Green tends to do OK statewide in WV but not that well.

Where are you getting these numbers?

Compiled via Atlas data. It's easy enough to do since WV mandates that counties not be split for congressional lines.

It's not like this district was represented by a Democrat until January 2015 or anything

Ojeda would never join the Republicans. That much is obvious if you've spent even a few minutes listening to him speak about issues. If any defection were to occur, it would be him becoming an independent - and before you say "what about his political career?" or "that wouldn't be a viable strategy", spend some time learning about his M.O. and past political involvement. He really just doesn't give a f[inks]k about what is politically-savvy or what you think of him if it conflicts with his beliefs.

West Virginia republicans are not attacking Ojeda for being on the government dole:

Of course, she fails to mention that said "government money" is a military pension earned after 4 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The West Virginia GOP has no idea what to do with Ojeda.

To be fair, she probably meant his Senate salary...but yeah, poorly thought out on her part, and it gives Ojeda a huge opening to attack them for attacking his military service; puts the state party on defense.

EDIT: and bingo:
