I voted for Evan Bayh, it would secure the midwest, and carry Ohio and maybe Indiana for the Dems.

You forgot to put John Edwards, who I would also be very satisfied with.

John Edwards is there, I voted for him... Wink

Graham is a fading star, and should not get the nomination in the future. Kerry needs to pick a VP who could become a strong nominee in the future, Nelson is better for this.

I think that Kerry needs to plan his own future.  What's he gonna do when he is out of a job after this campaign.  Smiley

Lol...Sweden just knocked out Australia, the reigning champions from the Davis Cup! I am a tennis freak, so that's why I'm still up, and right now very happy! It's just too bad that there aren't any Australians logged on now, i would like to tease them... Cheesy

Sorry, just had to let this out... Smiley

Next round we'll beat yu, and avenge the aussies, don't worry (we do play you next round, I think, don't we?)

Yes you do, and you wish! Australia were title defenders, now we can beat any country! And we have much better team spirit, American sportsmen tend to be more capitalist than patriotic... Wink

My pick was Bill Richardson.
Gore in 2000 showed that Dems don't have to win a single state in the South to win.  Edwards doesn't really gaurantee anything
Kerry can perhaps bring NH to the Dem side and Richardson should bring AZ and NM.  With that, the Dems can lose MN and still win the White House.

Unless there is another state that Kerry is winning, your scenario of winning NH, NM and AZ and losing MN does not give Kerry the White House.

Gore won 266 EVs in 2000, but winning the same states in 2004 only gives Kerry 260 EVs (due to changes in population after 2000).  The 260 includes NM, which Gore won in 2000.  If Kerry wins AZ (10) and NH (4), but loses in MN (10), he is only up to 264.  He would need another state.

You're right there, perhaps he meant NV, not NM, but what do I know?

If Dean picked Kennedy he'd run into the establishment problem he ran into with Gore. But that won't happen.

WHy do you republicans hate Dean so much? Is it what he says? Is it his supporters?

I don't know if they hate him, most of them wanted him to be the nominee. Haven't you asked this already?

Yo!  This would be my first post ever here.

Little background.  I'm only 16, I don't know how that compares to the rest of you, so bear with my limited intellegence, and my lack of ability to actually vote.  I'm the only 16 year old I know that actually cares about comething that matters in the world, so I'm happy about that.  I got into all this political stuff after the 2000 election and feeling totally bummed after Gore wound up not bein prez.

Anyway, I thought Edwards was the best pick for the nomination right from when I first heard of him.  Now that it looks like its Kerry, I'll have to say he'd easily make the best VP.

1)  He's younger, a lot of passion, and a rising star.  I think that's a proper image for a VP.  I don't want to see an older guy on the ticket.

2) I think his background and "Two Americas" theme pulls in the big midwest states for the Dems, and gives them a chance to pick up a couple Southern states.  (Although they are the Dems are so opposed on social issues, it'll be hard for any Dem to do anything there)

Another NJ Dem...is there no end to you...just kidding! Smiley Welcome to the forum! Smiley I am 16 myself, and the average age here seems to be around 25 or something, so don't worry...you won't score extra points on age though, I'm afraid... Wink

I agree with your analysis, btw.

you're 16 Gustaf!!!!! Wow you know a lot about American elections.

I'm still the youngest one at the post at 15!!!

Its great that you are an Edwards supporter hockey dude, I am too, but he hasn't finished so hot recently. For his political career to continue, he can't get dragged to the ground by Kerry. He was looking so strong last Tuesday from 7:00-8:00 PM.

Thanks...PD is 15 as well. Wink

I think it's fantastic that so many young people post on this forum and take an interest in politics. I remember being in high school in 1980 when Ronald Reagan ran against Jimmy Carter, and how the drive to elect Reagan changed my life forever. I just wish I could convince intelligent youngsters like Gustaf, Zachman and others to reconsider the Democratic avatar next to their posting names...LOL

Keep wishing...can't say that the "Europeans go home" thread improved the image of the Republican party though... Wink

Luckily, whenever I feel unsure I can just relax myself with a postby PD, JMF, Opebo, etc and I can tell which I party I do not wish to belong to... Wink

I'm also starting to think Edwards may not be the best choice. Kerry will have to say Bayh-Bayh to him.

You hear that, PD et al? When I talk, Gustaf considers the GOP. When you talk, he gets turned off. Hey, Gus,wecould always just form our own party with McCain and Lieberman, Bayh and Giuliani. Wants we really get started we'll kick posterior!

That's a good idea...I wish there was a moderate party for me to support on a constant basis but you Americans...what can I say... *SIGH* You seem to like having to choose between ultra-conservative gay-bashers on the one hand and protectionist big goverment socialists on the other. Sad

hockeydude... im a 15 who cares... ive had over 300 posts

15? Wow. I thought you were older.

But you're right, who cares. It's not age but ideas that matter here. Smiley

Another noble high-minded statement from Mike... Wink
