Why is it pandering when Kamala Harris smoked weed and not when when Bill Clinton or Barack Obama did? Was it because those guys campaigned so hard for legalizing weed?

It was all three times tho

I don't remember anyone saying it. I do remember people fan-girling over how cool it made Obama when he said it.

Hold up, I support Kamala, but she's not telling the whole truth here.

If she smoked weed "in college" then she could not possibly have been listening to Snoop and Tupac. Harris is 54. She attended college/university in the 80's. Tupac emerged in 1991, Snoop in 1992.

Shocked

To be fair, she got her JD in 1989 so I'm guessing it's Close enough. Tongue

I feel like I should mention this, but her doing this is fundamentally impossible:

Even if you account for law school, she graduated in 1989.

Or maybe she just mixed two memories together? I'm not old enough yet but I would have a hard time figuring if a particular album dropped when I was 24 or 28 when I will be 50-something.

I would guess it's partly that and partly that she didn't want to make it explicit that she smoked weed while being employed as an attorney because I'm guessing the current line of public forgiveness on the issue is one of it's ok when you were Young and in college but not otherwise. Which is dumb but kinda understandable.

Politicians talking about their onetime marijuana usage bears little to no relation to their actual work on legalization unless they actually say so, which so far Harris hasn't. The time is right for a candidate to actually campaign on descheduling marijuana.

I thought she is openly for legalization in this Campaign though?

If Harris had just said she smoked marijuana in college you could consider this a non-issue.

Instead she invented the story about the rappers as well and described the experience as "joy", which means she embellished it to sound more cool, and shows her to be a hypocrite later in regards to marijuana. So no it's not a non-issue. If a Republican candidate in 2016 claimed to listen to some "cool" music in college that wasn't out yet when they were in college they'd be mercilessly mocked for it, and rightfully so.

But that doesn't seem to be the most likely explanation, IMO.
