Around here Lutheran almost always means ELCA.  If I were a Lutheran, I'd have a choice of about 10 ECLA churches in the immediate vicinity, but I'd have to head to Columbia to find the nearest Missouri or Wisconsin Synod church.

So somewhere in South Carolina is quite similar to much of rural southern and northern Minnesota in this aspect? Very interesting...

The area I live in was settled by German Lutherans back in colonial days, so we have quite a few Lutherans with German surnames.
