For canonization, isn't it necessary that a miracle be performed by the prospective Saint?

They take a nice long while after these people die, which gives them the opportunity to fabricate something.
That seems excessively cynical to me.  Even if you hold that most (or even) all miracles are false, that doesn't require they be deliberately faked.
