It depends a lot on when the next economic downturn starts.  

A mild downturn in the economy at the start of the next term would actually help reelection chances, tho it might play havoc with the midterms.

That's a good point.  Historically, a recession hitting in 2017/early 2018 would be the best possible timing for Hillary/Democrats.  If it happens in year 1, it will be forgotten by year 4 short of a 1929/2008 level event.

It won't be forgotten, but remembered as something that went well during that president's watch, moreso than if there had been steady growth all four years.
