In 1886, August Spies, Samuel Fielden, Adolph Fischer, George Engel, Louis Lingg, Michael Schwab, Oscar Neebe and Albert Parsons were blamed for and ultimately convicted of masterminding the Haymarket bombing of May 4. Engel, Fischer, Parsons, and Spies were ultimately hanged for the crime (Fielden, Schwab, and Neebe were granted clemency and Lingg committed suicide the day before he was to be hanged) of holding heterodox political views. To this day, we celebrate the 1st of May as International Labor Day, commemorating the fight for the 8 hour day and in remembrance of the martyrs of the Haymarket Affair.
I think the answer to this is a fairly obvious one - these men were undoubtedly Freedom Fighters and should be honored as such.
