TNF, would you be willing to support a legal purchase age of eighteen rather than sixteen? We could tie it to legal adulthood.

We already have a legal purchase age of 18.

I'm inclined to let the regions handle this issue for themselves. It's not like Atlasia is rife with prohibitionists.

I thought that you were right, but Windjammer seems to be evidence to the contrary.

Not to mention the 5 or so bills introduced in the queue today.

Offering an amendment to supersede my previous one, in lieu of textual changes

I don't understand why certain substances would be included in this amendment while leaving out cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, etc.

The substances I included are those that are currently legal under Atlasian law, as per the Comprehensive Drug Reform Act of 2013. Hard drugs remain decriminalized, but are not legal at the federal level.

Aye.

OK, thanks for clarifying that.  I was sort of mystified as to how MDMA would fit into the 'harmless' substances category (then again, neither should alcohol), but a legal distinction makes sense.

If these substances are legal - shouldn't they all be sold with warnings of some sort relaying potential mental and/or physical damage?  It is only fair to the user.

I'm fine with that too, I just forgot to add that into my proposed amendment.

I agree with Tyrion, we can fix that with a subsequent amendment.

Is there any substantive difference between this amendment and the last one?

Yes, Section 3 only reduces the legal purchase age on alcohol, rather than tobacco and cannabis products.

Nay

Not sure why we want to end debate already when we haven't actually resolved the issue involving tribal governments and/or the sale of substances other than alcohol.

Aye

If we are going to regulate restrictions on alcohol sales, it only makes sense and is consistent to regulate restrictions being placed on sale of all legal products.

I don't see why alcohol would be treated any differently from the other drugs mentioned, but I'm not convinced we need to be dictating to municipalities on this issue in any case.
It is health reasons for me, though I would at least be OK with adding cigarettes and marijuana. Regardless, I plan to vote for this when it reaches a final vote, though I'm less than thrilled with what looks to be the final version.

For the sake of speeding things up (shocker, people still care about this), I am withdrawing my amendment.

Are any of those other drugs more of a health problem than tobacco and alcohol?

No, because aside from tobacco and alcohol, the drugs we have chosen to legalize do not create dependence.

I hope that the PPT will grant my request for a cloture vote upon the conclusion of this rather pointless amendment vote.

What do you mean by "grant request"? You requested a vote on cloture, I will hold that vote once this has finished. Why would ignore a lawful motion for such?

I didn't actually mean anything by it mayne. I just didn't know if you'd seen it. Tongue
