There was an initial primary a few weeks ago. The top four advanced to yesterday’s final round (though one of the four dropped out beforehand), which used instant run off voting. It will take at least another week or two to collect all the votes. Once they do that, they’ll distribute the third place candidate’s vote between the top two. Whichever Republican is in second is probably favored over the Democrat in first place, but there’s a chance that enough Begich voters don’t like Palin that the Democrat wins.

Is the second choice vote worth the same amount as the first choice in round 2, or is it worth less?
