Warren as Biden's VP makes a lot more sense than we initially realized. And if Biden's main concern is picking someone fit to do the job of President, her brand of competence is a strong reinforcement for that.

Yeah, there's a reason he promised her the vice presidency had he ran in 2016.

Wait, do you have a source on this?

Yes, from 2016.

I love this, thank you so much.

Probably reading way too much into this, but this tweet made me pause for a moment. He doesn't usually say much about specific political figures on his personal account.

Personally, this sounds like it's down to Harris and Warren. Klobuchar, Whitmer, even CCM don't exactly add anything to the ticket that Biden lacks.

Yeah, if Biden wants a female Cuomo, it's gonna be Whitmer.

I think the worst possible thing he could do is pick off a Governor who is absolutely crushing her state's response to Covid. Not worth it, she'll definitely have a future once this is over. She may even go in the cabinet.

Harris is establishment but not the woman who has been in the U.S. Senate 10 years longer than her?

K.

establishment = those who control the party

it has nothing to do with seniority.

She flopped out of the primary because she ran out of money. People who "control the party" do not do that.

Abrams takes public lobbying for the VP job to new heights:

https://www.elle.com/culture/career-politics/a32132819/stacey-abrams-on-voting-rights-covid-19-and-being-vice-president/

Quote
Stacey Abrams does not give the expected answer when I ask if she would accept an offer from former vice president Joe Biden to serve as his 2020 running mate. “Yes. I would be honored,” Abrams says. “I would be an excellent running mate. I have the capacity to attract voters by motivating typically ignored communities. I have a strong history of executive and management experience in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. I’ve spent 25 years in independent study of foreign policy. I am ready to help advance an agenda of restoring America’s place in the world. If I am selected, I am prepared and excited to serve.”

"I would be an excellent running mate" isn't the expected answer to this question.

Uh, yeah. This is getting desperate. Biden should quietly tell her he's not going to pick her but promise her a cabinet post or something.

I will knock on every god damn door in Pennsylvania as soon as the quarantine is lifted if Warren is the pick.

Biden has one VP pick that stands above the rest

Quote
Besides the concerns some have raised about Biden's age and stamina, the fact that this campaign will take place in the middle of a full-scale pandemic means Democrats will need all hands on deck to pull out a victory in November.
While there are many good possibilities from which Biden can choose, one stands out more than any other: Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

I'm very much on the #WarrenforVP train but I think Harris is the best fit for a black woman as VP--plus she's a familiar name for most Americans so she won't have to go through the trouble that Abrams/Lance Bottoms would have to and introduce herself to the country. Abrams is more well-known among the electorate, but how many non-political nerds know about the runner up in the 2018 Georgia Gubernatorial race? Not many.

I don't understand how this is going to take two months. He should have his VP announced as soon as possible given the nature of the campaign in these circumstances. I know it always takes a long time to vet a list of, what, 10-15 people? But jeez that's a long time.

Warren doesn't provide enough of an age contrast, that's why she won't be chosen.

Elizabeth Warren is the youngest 70 year old I've ever seen--she could probably outrun most younger politicians in the mental department...even in the physical department as well.

I don't understand how this is going to take two months. He should have his VP announced as soon as possible given the nature of the campaign in these circumstances. I know it always takes a long time to vet a list of, what, 10-15 people? But jeez that's a long time.

Why as soon as possible? VP pick is big news; make your decision and then sit on it for a while to let the speculation run rampant. May would be crazy early to announce a VP candidate, historically, and I think better to wait to announce for a time when maybe you can get a bigger portion of the news cycle than right now. Doesn't seem like a disadvantage at all to announce in August, e.g.

I suppose. Everything has been thrown out of whack this cycle and it feels like no matter when it's announced, it will be at least a little bit overshadowed since things are no longer being done the traditional way. I'm also impatient af lol.

All this says is that he's not involved in the decision making process at all. He's not "encouraging" Biden to pick anyone because that's not his focus right now.

I don't think she'll be the running mate pick either, but this is not a reason why not. There's no reason why this would stop Biden from offering it to her if he thought she was best for the ticket, and there's no reason this would stop her from accepting it.

Another reason why other than Warren and Klobuchar have been mentioned as Veeps, they have been already exposed to coronovirus.  Today, Pence, whom says he has tested negative have been exposed to coronovirus since he has visited that med facility and wont be traveling with Trump; consequently Warren or Klobuchar have immunity from coronavirus and Harris, Abrams, Val Demings dont. That's why Harris and Abrams have pulled back from Veep consideration, while Warren hasnt

This is one of your greatest hits.

I would say of the names I see repeatedly mentioned, my personal ranking would be:

S Tier

Elizabeth Warren

A Tier

Kamala Harris

B Tier

Catherine Cortez-Masto
Val Demings
Tammy Duckworth
Tammy Baldwin
Gretchen Whitmer

C Tier

Stacey Abrams
Amy Klobuchar
Susan Rice
Keisha Lance Bottoms

Has anyone thought about Tulsi Gabbard for VP? Popular among Republicans, woman of color, great biography. I know she’s not liked by a lot of the party, but isn’t that kind of the point? She would bring the other side in without alienating the base.

hahahahahahahahahaha

no.

Again, it would look really bad for Whitmer if she ditched Michigan during all of this after just getting elected in 2018. Ain't gonna happen.

Yeah, she would get run out of the state if Biden doesn't win.

Val Demings is like Kamala Harris on steroids.

She's everything Kamala is, just 300% better.

Minus the name recognition. Also, if Kamala would be a bad pick because “she’s a cop” then how exactly is Demings any better?

Her DNA test and relentless woke politics is already a needless distraction Biden doesn't need.

Yeah, not like the Trump campaign won't make stupid issues out of any of the potential VP candidates.

Dumb question from a white guy: How appealing would a Warren VP pick be to communities of color and black and brown party leaders?

Quote
By the numbers: Black voters in Michigan and Wisconsin picked Abrams as their favorite hypothetical running mate for Biden, at 36% and 38%, respectively.

While Klobuchar is popular among voters overall in these states, she got just 12% support from black voters in Michigan and 20% from black voters in Wisconsin.

Harris underperformed with black voters in Michigan (22%) relative to her overall support in these two states, and she did 10 percentage points better with black voters in Wisconsin.

Warren earned the most consistent support among the group, in the low 30s among black voters in both states.

Abrams’ performance without being a sitting senator or having just run for president, shows potential to build a broad coalition and turn out voters.

This is not new, but in his interview with Dana Bash Biden reiterated the qualities he is looking for:

Quote
"I think the two most important things are you got to pick someone who's compatible with you, both in terms of your style -- and my style and Barack's (were) very different, but they were compatible, they work with one another -- and someone who in fact, you would want to be the last person in the room when you're making a tough decision," he said.

Quote
He also said he wanted to select someone "who will be loyal in the sense that whatever disagreements you have are between you and the president at that moment."
https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/26/politics/joe-biden-vice-presidential-search/index.html

That doesn't sound like Warren.

It doesn't? She has already softened on a couple of issues to show solidarity with Biden and has been very publicly supportive of him. And it seems like they'd work together well. They may not agree, but where Biden is tougher, Warren may be more gentle. So I think they might strike a balance behind the scenes. Just my 2 cents tho.
