I'd like to be less socially anxious/awkward, but still I value my introversion.

The anonymity of the interwebs cause people to behave differently than they normally would. Also, posting text is easier than talking in person for many people because it gives them time to think about what they are saying without the pressure of an immediate response being needed.
You make a valid point. Otoh, some people still don't manage. I guess it isn't necessarily their fault though.
