normally that would seem preposterous, but I believe it is possible. Even though Whitman and Fiorina both won the county with 57-58 percent, I still think it isn't out of the question to win the county, especially if Obama came within 5 percent. I think they should try to win the county not for the sake of winning it, but because of symbolism. If the democrats could win Orange County of all places, then it would be sort of a watershed moment. It would mean that if the democrats could win a place thought to have gone democratic when "hell freezes over" that they could win anywhere and have unlocked the keys to building a coalition that rivals the New Deal Coalition. It would also put republicans on the defensive having to spend money in places they would usually dominate in.

Targeting specific counties in safe states is beyond stupid.

normally yes but it is an act of symbolism. If Orange County becomes winnable to the democrats, it is a way for the democrats to assert themselves that they are truly the dominant national party the same way that the party was from 1932-1968.

This is a brilliant strategy. Just get the Obama campaign to totally abandon winning Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida and I'm sold!

yeah but if you win Orange County, you obviously would have also won Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida.
