I don't know, reducing the size of the default largest cup someone can get will probably have a bigger impact than you might think.

Even ignoring whether Bloomberg should have enacted regulations on soda or not (I see the argument for but would probably vote it down), the law actually passed did basically nothing in practice.

Right--it was partially a joke and partially a jab at the fact that Henry VIII's move was an immature reaction to the Pope not letting have a divorce (especially since there were no liturgical changes to the CoE at first). Though changes have obviously been made, the original reason for its founding remains. Luther's split from the Church is far more defensible.

I do not actually consider myself a Catholic, though if I felt the need for spiritual guidance in my life I would turn to it before Jonestown or whatever you're in.

I liked him and considered supporting him if he ran for President in 2016, but now I think that he is a massive HP due to the revelations of his scandals. It is complete BS that he did not know what was going on with the bridge closure and it is quite obvious that he embezzled money form Hurricane Sandy aid to further his political career. I am hoping that he is thrown out of office and will face criminal prosecution for his actions.

Yes, but he was also a champion of civil rights, just like our party's early leaders were, and that outweighs any position he took on abortion in my mind.

He was also a champion of sending a lot of young black men to prison with his enactment of the strictest (and dumbest) drug laws in the country up to that point, so that kind of cancels out the whole "big civil rights advocate" in my mind.

Especially because a lot of young white men probably went to prison under those laws as well.

This is not an absurd, ignorant, or bad post in any meaningful way.

I'd get the hell out of dodge and let the state fall on its own sword without taking me with it.

Yes Florida, a beautiful state mocked incessantly by Snowstalker, the leftist from Amish country and New Jersey. Florida is also a state that is bedeviled by out of staters moving south and doing harm. Take Charlie Crist, Rick Scott, and George Zimmerman for example.

Almost everyone in Florida is either an out-of-stater or the child of out-of-staters. It was unpopulated swampland until the 1940's or so. Florida would of course be far more beautiful if they never started paving over said swamps to make room for tacky suburban sprawl and theme parks where a small soda costs $8.

This would be comparable if "Obama" (as in, the military) was going around Pakistan trying to kill as many innocent grandmothers as possible.

Obama is Commander-in-Chief, and the drone program has shown itself to be little more effective in avoiding collateral damage than standard bombing raids. And on numerous occasions has the US directly targeted civilians (Vietnam, Serbia, Iraq, etc) and avoided any punishment.

Good Icespear.  You're not a fan of drone strikes.  I'm not a fan of the death penalty.  I believe terrorist acts can be prevented in a better way than killing the terrorists.

I find it odd that you're willing to accept collateral damage from drone strikes, which promotes better than nearly anything else we do, which is terrorism against the United States.  But you want blood for the terrorist acts!

I agree with all of these.  And Macklemore is nothing special.  I don't know if Macklemore's success is because of white racism though.  I think his "socially conscious" lyrics, sales and cuteness all factor in. 

Kanye is far more socially conscious than Macklemore, the latter has just taken on an issue that's basically safe (especially in 2013/14) and devoted a third of said song to insisting he wasn't gay. Meanwhile, actual intelligent lyrics about the systematic racism that pervades America today are rejected by the Grammy committee.

I think Macklemore has pretty uninteresting lyrics, but homophobia is still a major issue, particularly in the hip-hop and black community.  Plus, his music is just safer and more wholly positive.  There's a reason why he's perceived as more of a politically aware artist.

I like Kanye's music, but he does throw around the N-word and he's a fairly misogynist and materialistic in his lyrics.  I don't see how he has much of a social conscience outside of protesting for Kanye West's rights.

People can be weird about these things.  There are also Christians only, Jews only, and Muslims only dating sites.  Presumably the Hindu all were married at age seven in marriages that were arranged when they were infants, so that one may not exist.  Oops.  I stand corrected.  A google search turns up a large number of Hindu dating websites as well.

Anyway, there are some people who only want to make it with someone who has a particular characteristic.  As bedstuy said, such websites are really good things, not only because they help these people with their insular tendencies, but also because they save the rest of us from awkwardness and frustration.  Doncha hate it when a hot Libertarian chick won't have anything to do with you only because you're a Mao photo-carrying member of the Communist Party? I know I do.

To be fair, people whose core values are similar have less reason to divorce later.  Also, people lead busy lives, and you can't always count on meeting Mister Right at the synagogue or the Republican National Convention or a Ku Klux Klan rally or whatever, so if that's the only sort of person you want to hook up with, then the ethno-specific dating websites do serve a valid purpose.
