"Speaker Johnson signals that Ukraine and Israel aid will only get through the House if there are border policies attached.

“Any funding of the President’s supplemental request should be premised on meaningful policy … at our southern border.”"

I hope the Republicans do the right thing.

I hope you do the right thing too (deliberately vague, unspecific)
Explain.

As an artist, my comments are open to interpretation. Try using your imagination.
I interpreted your comment as a call for Woody to honor his pledge to leave the forum for a year

Let's apply a late fee of sorts where for every day he's stuck around since the 2021 Georgia runoffs he has to leave the forum for another day beyond the initial three hundred and sixty-five. By my count that currently puts us on a tempban expiring sometime around the end of July 2028.

I'll change my display name to "Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian" for a month if this all goes through successfully tomorrow. That much at least he'll deserve.

So is this still four separate bills (Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, TikTok)?

The rule provides that if they all pass they'll be sent to the Senate as if they're all one bill—a very strange procedure but, well, the House is the final arbiter of its own rules, and this one got over 300 votes.

I'm reasonably sure Taiwan funding will do the best out of the four segments, but what will be the closest vote?

I'd say almost certainly the one with the TikTok thing in it, since the idea with that part is basically to be a Republican hobbyhorse grab-bag that Democrats don't hate too much.

How much more procedural drama there's been about Ukraine than about the first two parts of the package is revealing in itself. They like Putin and want him to win.

Tlaib voted present on the Taiwan bill, the only Democrat to not vote yes. Very disappointing move from her, figured it would be Cori Bush if anyone.

Ew she's so gross. She honestly needs to be investigated for treason.

Yeah, I've defended her before but this would probably push me out of her camp were I in her district. She has a really interesting perspective on things and gets some unnecessary flak, but not supporting Taiwan aid is just sickening.

It's difficult to dispute at this point that Tlaib is a softcore campist who just does not really love or even like this country. That's definitely a perspective that it's important to have in the public sphere, but I do not think Congress is the right place in the public sphere to have it.

Why is this a perspective that is important to have in the public sphere at all?

A healthy democratic polity should have ways to weather harsh and even bad-faith criticism, and the best way to make sure it can do that is to allow that criticism to take place.

I do appreciate your honesty in admitting that Tlaib clearly hates America.

Thanks, but this isn't some huge concession from me; I've never been much of a fan or defender of hers.
