Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

43% of Greenlanders born in the 70ties experienced sexual abuse through their childhood. This resulted in two things, many children tended to be removed especially if the parents moved to the mainland where there was greater interaction with social workers, especially if the parent also had substance abuse. But we also saw some doctors deal with the epidemic of teen pregnancies by inserting coils in teen girls, this started under the Danish administration but continued under Greenlandic home rule. This was incredible problematic both because the girls weren’t informed and it was simply symptom treatment of a rampant sexual abuse epidemic.

Also no it’s not an open secret that Greenlanders are seen as gypsies, you need to be incredible ignorant to think that. This doesn’t mean that negative stereotypes of Greenlanders doesn’t exist, but they’re not about Greenlanders being thieves, robbers or other criminals like the Romani, but about them being drunks.

The degree of negative stereotyping was the comparison being made, not the specific types of stereotypes involved. What you're describing bears striking similarities to what the First Nations went through on the Canadian Prairies, which was of course the other analogy Battista drew.

Greenland is the only country in the Americas, where the indigenous population weren’t genocided or ethnic cleansed*, the Greenlanders have the highest living standard of any indigenous people in the Americas, their language is the official language of Greenland. Which is why I find this kind of bullsh**t by people who have committed genocide and ethnic cleansing against their indigenous populations so incredible hypocritical and frustrating.

*Interesting, USA wanted Denmark to ethnic cleanse the Greenlandic population in 1946 to make room for American military bases, they wanted the population “relocated” to Alaska. Such a “relocation” would even in best case likely have killed 10% of the population, but I’m sure that it would not have been best case, and we would have seen 25-33% dying in the “relocation” and rehousing.

I'm aware that Denmark's record here is not as bad as the US's or Canada's, but I literally work in Native issues in real life so I'd really rather not be treated as implicitly too guilty in that to have an informed opinion.

Do you work in the death camps or the sterilization centers?

I'm going to assume this is an ill-judged attempt at edgy humor and gently remind you that I'm already conceding your substantive point.

I apologize, I was angry and tired and you didn’t deserve that joke.

I know how it is; we're all good on my end.
