Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Even if Baker probably still would have won a semi-open Massachusetts primary in the end, it would have been politically grueling and maybe even psychologically exhausting-to-traumatizing. I don't blame him for throwing his hat in, especially after two full terms that most Bay Staters (rightly or not) perceive to have been very successful. And not only should it not be as surprising as it is that the MAGOP has a now-ascendant Trumpist wing, I think people would do well to remember that Trump, at least in 2016, was himself a creature of Northeastern state Republican bases; it was his landslides in states like Massachusetts that solidified him as the primary frontrunner!

What is the view here of Maura Healey? I've heard that she's a staunch progressive, with a "unlikable" personality, who tends to lean in heavily on social and cultural issues (or in other words, that she's the archetype of an upper middle-class, suburban Democrat). I've heard, on the other hand, that she possesses some charisma and could be a solid candidate. What is the consensus?

All of this is true. Her "lane" would be similar to Markey's in the primary against Kennedy last year. The perception that there's Coakley potential in the general is motivated by sexism since Healey has, as you say, some charisma and Coakley simply did not, but Healey wouldn't be a shoo-in in a primary against someone like Walsh who could appeal to the types of voters Kennedy tried to mobilize against Markey but without coming across as a lightweight.

I’m so confused. Most of you guys are saying Walsh would beat Healey but that Healey would beat Kennedy? LOL.

If Healey is really as much of a rising star as many of you think she is - She should be able to beat Walsh. If she can’t beat Walsh then she wouldn’t beat Kennedy either

Walsh has had more successes in contested Democratic fields in Massachusetts than Kennedy has, even though his were localized to Boston proper.

Ayyadurai’s main function will be to make Diehl look good.

What are the odds Diehl gets the nomination?

High. He already has Trump's endorsement and with Baker and Polito both out there isn't any obvious heavyweight on the non-Trumpist/relatively-moderate wing of the state party to countervail that.

Really wish Baker ran again.

Not overly excited about Healey

Nobody should care whether or not they're "excited" about a Governor who will stop Baker's cold-hearted ALEC-y cuts to vocational rehab and continuing education and hopefully also move away from his two-facedness about what happened in the Holyoke Soldiers' Home.
