The two nutcases might unfortunately be narrowly favored at this stage but they're not winning by ten points.

From Stephanie Saul @ NYT: Kelly Loeffler is only the second woman to serve as a senator from Georgia. The other, Rebecca Latimer Felton, served for one day in 1922.

Latimer was racist too, but extremely so.

And strangely enough, she was a suffragist as well, and was very adamant about it. Human nature certainly is something to reckon with.

It was fairly common in the Progressive Era. The schisms on race within the early feminist movement were something to behold. Charlotte Perkins Gilman was bigly deplorable on race relations too.

!!!

I've said before that I truly wanted Warnock to win, and it seems like it's coming to pass. He is the antithesis of Loeffler in every way, and the attacks upon his character were disgraceful and demeaning. She is reaping what she sowed.

You've mentioned before that you're African American, it must be great to see an African American Democrat (hopefully) elected in the south?

Yes. I may not agree with Warnock on every issue, as I've made clear my views (and registration) as a moderate independent, but I certainly see this as a historic and worthy milestone. And the pastor of MLK's church is certainly far more deserving of this seat than some arrogant businesswoman who bears a great animus against those not like her.

I'm also black and I agree 100%. It's astounding how few black Senators there have been; Obama was only the 5th one in history and we've had around a dozen now.
I thought we've only had five black Senators in the last hundred or so years. I did not know that there have only been five since reconstruction.

Ed Brooke, Carol Braun, Obama, and Tim Scott come to mind instantly. Who am I missing?

Roland Burris. How's that for a blast from the past?

Ugh I really need to go to bed.

But I was here when GA flipped to Biden at the crack of dawn and I'm gonna be here when an official call is made, dammit!

Wasn't that 2-3 days later?

How long has it been since there was a clergyman in the Senate? I know there are some in the House, but for the Senate do you have to go back to John Danforth?

At this point I think Perdue wins and Loeffler loses.

Why? None of the analysis out there suggests Perdue is going to win.

Sanchez is an optimist.

So I guess we have proven beyond doubt, that promising people COLD HARD CASH, is a lot more effective than whatever the hell the Democrats have been running on as of late.

Basic materialist analysis, comrade.

Steve K. on MSNBC just reported got off the phone with the BOE and are 7.5k ballots from Fulton, but not until tomorrow afternoon.

God, tomorrow afternoon is going to be a real barn-burner for this country's politics, isn't it?

Comparing Warnock to Louis Farrakhan? Not surprising to me at all-as I've noted before, Loeffler tried to paint him as Jeremiah Wright 2.0, an effort which backfired on her, as the high black turnout in Georgia testifies. And over at RRH Elections (https://rrhelections.com/index.php/2021/01/05/2021-georgia-senate-runoff-liveblog/#comments) they're having a meltdown as well over this outcome.

Siegfried Kelly Loeffler's disgusting race-baiting campaign is a genuinely dark chapter in the history of American electioneering. Thank God it failed.

For all the hand wringing about polls, the polling averages were actually pretty spot on this cycle.

It's possible it's just Trump as a candidate who's impossible to poll correctly, rather than polling itself being broken.

I still don't trust rich suburbrons and YOU CAN'T MAKE ME

So there was a good deal of minority snapback for Warnock. That's good to see going forward.
