Am I really the only one who thinks Beshear is favored? For Christ's sake, he is outperforming Bevin by 5-6 in eastern KY.

Considering the margin in Bevin's favor seems to be growing, and the current dearth in these urban areas...yes.

Almost nothing is in from the urban areas.

Revising my gun-to-my-head prediction from Bevin+2 to Beshear+1.

I was convinced IceSpear et al were descriptively right, even if they were normatively wrong.

Beautiful to see those eastern KY counties coming home one last time to defeat this Randian villain.

Bandit reminds me of that minor character from Anne of Avonlea who predicted a hundred-year thunderstorm on and off for decades, and earned a reputation as a weather prophet when one finally happened.

Guys, it's 97% in on CNN, with Jefferson at 96%, and Beshear still has a 0.7% lead. At worst this falls into recount margin. Relax.

When have I heard this before?

I don't know, when have you? Literally a greater percentage of Jefferson is still out than of the rest of the state.

Beshear is going to win, but there are Republican leaning parts of Jefferson County that they could theoretically be.  Not that Bevin has enough votes regardless.

The rest of Jefferson just dropped on CNN and Beshear is back up to 0.8% with 99% in.

Did Beshear underperform in Kenton and Campbell or are those narrow victories good results for him?

Relative to the past, Beshear BTFOed Bevin in Kenton and Campbell. This is ancestrally Republican suburbia. Bevin 2015 and Trump both won them by double digits.

Bevin's not conceding. He's alluded to "discrepancies" and "irregularities". ok gen xer.

Whereabouts are IceSpear/TrendsAreReal/etc? Guess trends aren't real anymore, huh?

I mean, mocking the prediction that KY was safe R is of course fair game, but the trends WERE real in this race. Beshear won by about the same margin as he did in 2015 but with far more urban/suburban support and far less rural support.

Loving the new display name. I appreciate that you can roll with the punches.

Is the area radiating outwards from Pulaski County ancestrally Republican in the same way as/for the same reasons as neighboring East Tennessee?

Bevin's refusing to concede and wants to pull some power moves to throw the election to the state senate.

...uh...will he be able to?

I still want an answer to this. Is there any actual legal/constitutional recourse that Bevin can take advantage of or is he just posturing to create questions about Beshear's legitimacy?

Wow, Beshear has been elected? What's the chance for a recount?

Bevin can ask for one if he wants to, and he almost certainly will, but it won't happen automatically, and whatever judge he asks isn't legally obliged to grant it.

Really bad Democratic underperformance, especially in South Jersey. Jeff Van Drew's old State Senate seat went to a Republican, along with a few Assembly seats.

Are y'all seriously gonna argue that Amazon was dumping truck loads of cash into Orion's campaign out of principled commitments to good government or something?

Easy with the strawmanning.

What I personally say is that from all the Amazon targeted councilors only Sawant came close to losing. And that's because she is a jerk and a purity troll.

And voters decided that they'd rather have a jerk and a purity troll than someone who's bought by a dystopian megacorporation. Shocking, I know.

Not shocking at all.
Staten Island voters voted for Mike Grimm.
Almost half of Alabama voters voted for a pedophile.
Depending on the constituency, being an extremist asshole can be your ticket to electoral success more often than not.

Furthering the Bezos zaibatsu's influence over the American economy in general and Seattle's local economy in particular is an extreme-right political project; this just isn't immediately obvious because it's not presented with the political tone or style that we normally associate with the extreme right. Thus, both candidates in this particular race were extremist assholes.
