Its a mix of both.  They know healthcare reform needs to get passed, that we have an immense problem on our hands and we need to fix this now instead of just kicking this down the curb.  They also realize part of the reason they were elected in the 1st place was healthcare reform, and they must deliver on it.   While most probably realized that the GOP would try to block healthcare reform, I don't think anyone knew the extreme level of obstruction the GOP would resort to, but the Dems need to do something.  Unless they go through with Reconciliation and actually fight the GOP they look like a bunch of pussies.

It's a control issue. Once the Democrat Party implements their Socialist National Healthcare plan, the Republicans, or anyone for that matter will never be able to remove the horrid thing. The NH plan will drive all private insurance out of business, because then everybody will be on the government plan, which is exactly what the White House wants. President Obama is either lying or incredibly naive and stupid to think that nobody is going to lose their current coverage.

The Democrats probably expect to suffer a setback or two once they implement it, but they'll be able to come back because it's not like the Republicans will be able to remove National Healthcare. The Democrats will dominate because only they are able to run their Socialist HC System well. The Republicans will be reduced to the "Lesser" Center-Left party, having to worship Obamacare to get elected.

Does Quality of Care matter to the Democrats? Nope. Do the burdens the Tax Payers will have to endure for Obamacare matter to the White House? Nope. It's all about power.

Ahh first post on the board and you start right off wing right wing lies, scare tactics and talking points.....

So reconciliation or "majority rule" is a go in the senate.

Does that mean the house will pass the current 60-vote senate bill then amend it with reconciliation? Or will the house draw up a new/changed bill that'll pass the senate via reconciliation?

Due to the technicalities of the Reconciliation rule the Democrats likely will not be able to pass the entire bill through reconciliation.  So what is likely going to happen is the House will vote on the Senate Bill as is (last I heard March 18th is the target date) and then they will make a few amendments to the bill and vote on that through reconciliation.
