I think Porter is running on her online popularity and one liners which isn't a great reason to run. The timing of her announcement might hurt what kind of endorsements she can get and those are very important. She won't have a problem fundraising, but endorsements will be an issue. I'm also not sure if she has a particular base of voters who will gravitate toward her.

Schiff can gather a lot of endorsements particularly out of Southern California and money shouldn't be an issue. But like with Porter it's hard to tell what his voter base is.

Lee's age might be an issue for some, but she is well positioned by being in the Bay Area and if she is the only Democratic candidate from there then she has an advantage. Plus she would pull the progressive vote.

A D vs D race comes down to region. Assuming that Lee advanced against either another Democrat her strategy would be to run up good numbers in the Bay Area and not get completely swamped in SoCal.

I knew the recall Newsom thing was to have Larry Elder appoint a replacement. Good thing Newsom wasn’t recalled.

Even if he had been recalled Elder would have almost certainly lost the 2022 election and not been a factor in this.

Oh yeah. But this was still the idea behind the recall.

I agree that was the reasoning behind it.

Further downballot, Democrats are getting a collective 48% in CA-40 (Kim) and 49% in CA-45 (Steel). Far better than Democrats did in the last primary.

Good riddance to this sore loser trash.

Thank you Katie!

Not that dirty, stringy haired girl thinking they are going to pick up Porter's seat. Irvine has shifted too far left for that to happen.

I had a huge problem with Schiff boosting Garvey because had a Republican been locked out of the top two it could have possible lowered GOP turnout down ballot and made it easier to win House seats. Some things are more important than having an easy time winning your own race. Schiff would have still be favored against another Democrat.

What’s more important than making sure that republicans In your state have a voice for senator. I thought yall were about Democracy?

Republicans had plenty of choices on the ballot. It's not undemocratic if their choice doesn't make the top two, it's just what happens sometimes. My concern is electing those who will protect democracy, not Republicans being guaranteed a spot in the top two (which legally they aren't even entitled to).
